Things you need to know about driving in France

Driving in France is an experience to be enjoyed. The countryside is breathtaking anywhere you go. But don’t forget the elementary rules.

1. French drivers drive on the right.

2. A foreign driving licence does not entitle the holder to drive/ride a motor vehicle in France until the age of 18 years old.

3. The alcohol limit is 0.2 grams per litre.

4. All drivers and riders have been prohibited from wearing headsets and headphones whilst driving, be it for music purposes or for phone calls.

5. Pollution restriction in Paris : Crit’air
The stickers can be obtained online and a website has recently been updated to include most European languages to make ordering as easy as possible. They cost 4 Euros.

6. Stop lights are at the street corners, not above the intersections.

7. The police can stop you at any time and ask for your papers, regardless of whether you’ve done something wrong.

8. There are radars posted along the highways, and you can get a ticket in the mail later.

9. There’s no such thing as a “right turn on red” in France.
